Samuel Christopher Giannini Burfeind

I've gotten no end of grief for not having these photos up on Monday. I mean, it's not like I've been busy or anything.

Samuel was born at 11:28 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2002. He was much bigger than everybody expected, weighing in at 8 lbs 14 oz. Most of it seemed to be in his head, especially his chubby little cheeks!

Jennifer and Samuel are both healthy and happy (as am I, but I didn't have nearly as much to do). Labor moved much more quickly than we expected, at least at first, but the last few hours took their toll. We thought that Samuel might have changed his mind about coming out after all.

In recent weeks we heard plenty of suggestions for how to bring on labor, but what worked for Jennifer was brunch at the Paramount Deli on Charles Street, followed by watching her husband help carry a mattress and box spring up to a fifth-floor walkup on Beacon Hill. Many thanks to Doug Almond for suggesting it!

Here are a few photos from Samuel's first days. Enjoy.
